Black Orpheus at Art X Lagos
Between October 31 and November 4, 2024, we unveiled an exhibition at the Art X Lagos showcasing the original covers and content of Black Orpheus journals. The exhibition, managed by JCAA Lagos, introduced attendees to a one-year project at OlongoAfrica which aims to unearth the history and legacy of Black Orpheus as a pan-African journal of literature. The project is supported by the generosity of Open Society Foundations.
The archives of the Black Orpheus journal will soon be digitized and made public soon.
There were about 150 visitors who actively engaged with the exhibition, curated by Missla Libsekal of Art X Lagos, Kọ́lá Túbọ̀sún of OlongoAfrica, and Ṣeun Alli of June Creative Art Advisory. The overwhelming intention of the exhibition, beyond delighting visitors with the creative writing, history, and visual artists, is to introduce them to the archives and introduce them to the Black Orpheus fellowship coming soon.
We hope to continue a few other events of this nature through this year. Here are photos from the event.
